Introduction to Avantgarde

Avantgarde is a DeFi native asset management, advisory and research firm that specializes in running non-custodial onchain asset management strategies, leveraging DeFi protocols and tools to deliver solutions for DAOs, Foundations, and Institutional clients.

Avantgarde has been active in DeFi since 2016, notably as co-founders of the onchain asset management protocol Enzyme, and brings decades of experience from firms like Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Messari, and Genesis to help DAOs and Foundations optimise treasury management strategies, improve financial sustainability, and support long-term growth. Past and current clients include Arbitrum, Gitcoin, Nexus Mutual, Apecoin among others.

We also serve as active delegates on Uniswap, Compound, Safe, and Morpho, where we’ve participated in initiatives such as the Uniswap Bridge Assessment Committee, contributed with R&D to various proposals in line with our expertise, instigated RFP processes as well as spearheaded governance proposals.

Driver & Values

ParaSwap has built a solid foundation as a top DEX aggregator across the EVM landscape but would benefit from greater engagement in governance, and in particular a DAO that can support the core builders of the protocol and help push ParaSwap to the next level. We’re excited for this next phase of the ParaSwap DAO, and will lend our experience and expertise together with our fellow delegates to ensure that the DAO incorporates the valuable lessons we’ve learnt from other DAOs, as well as the appropriate structures that will see both the DAO and protocol flourish.

With this in mind, the core values that will shape our governance efforts are:

  • Decentralization: At its core, crypto is about distributing control back to the community. We’re committed to supporting initiatives that stay true to this mission.

  • Transparency: We value clear communication alongside honest and straightforward processes, ensuring everyone understands what’s happening and why, which helps align efforts toward shared goals.

  • Accessibility: Participation shouldn’t be limited to those with technical knowledge or insider experience. We work to make governance, funding structures, and community involvement as approachable and understandable as possible for everyone.

  • Accountability: A healthy DAO requires transparency and follow-through, which hasn’t exactly been the norm in the space so far, though things are improving. We’ll push for initiatives to include well-defined goals, progress checkpoints, and clear reporting structures to make sure actions align with commitments.

  • Growth: The crypto industry moves at an incredible pace. To achieve long-term success, DAOs need both ambition and adaptability; to take calculated risks and pursue innovation. Our priority is to remain open to new opportunities, empower builders, and ensure the DAO can scale effectively in a competitive environment by supporting thoughtful, sustainable growth strategies

Disclosure:

While no direct conflict of interest exists, Avantgarde is actively contributing and working with a number of chains across the wider Ethereum ecosystem. We will look to leverage our network and experience from these ecosystems, and will diligently disclose any conflicts of interest should any such situation arise.

PIP-56: Implementation of Project MirĂł Roadmap and Migration

We support the proposed roadmap for Paraswap and appreciate all the work that has gone into this from the core team. It is ambitious in the right way and the outlined budget and new token distribution all seem reasonable. Great to see the DAO playing a larger role in the future of Paraswap.

We also appreciate the revisions that were made to the original proposal (see our feedback in the initial proposal thread here).

All in all, excited about this and very much look forward to follow these developments!

PIP-55- Reward Mechanism Automation

Manual work always comes with the human factor risk, so automating rewards distributions is a great improvement in the name of operational efficiency. The fee including the monthly cap is reasonable. Voted in favour of this!

[GRANT REQUEST] OAK Research Grant Proposal

Voted against as we believe the value provision does not match the requested funds.

PEP-08: Upgrade Module End-of-Life Strategy

Voted in favour of the proposal to help expedite the upcoming release of Project MirĂł, saw no reason to vote otherwise.

PIP-58 - ParaSwap Delegate Incentives Program - Cycle 1

We voted in support of the Delegate Incentives Program. Initially we expressed some concern over the size of the program in relation to the treasury (see link), and were happy to see that this feedback was implemented.

The DAO is at an important crossroad as to its role in supporting the Paraswap protocol, and paying dedicated delegates will help ensure the DAO can adequately support the protocol going forward. Still, the DAO must strive for efficiency in its resource management, and cannot afford to hesitate to cut those that do not sufficiently contribute.

PIP-59: Proposal for Returning 40.203 wETH to Bybit (After 10% Bounty Deduction)

After much consideration, we decided to vote in support of this proposal. We totally get the argument that you should not interfere with permissionelss/decentralized protocols working as intended. But hoarding funds earned from clearly illicit activity is questionable at best, and could do real repetitional damage to the Paraswap DAO who does hold the power to return these funds.

In the end, we believe the point about reputational risk is probably the most salient factor and that supporting the industry is the right thing to do over the ideological arguments, especially given the $ amount is negligible.

PIP-60 - Expansion of Project Miro token and staking system to Base

We voted for this proposal as it strategically positions the new token within the expanding Base ecosystem, whose significant growth in activity and TVL presents a valuable opportunity to increase the token’s visibility and adoption. Deploying staking on Base offers existing stakers more options for participation and aligns the new token with the broader Superchain eco.

Also good to see that Laita is proactively thinking about user experience, not only with the migration tool (which will be important for a successful launch) but also consolidating staking rewards on a single chain, which we think makes a lot of sense from a UX perspective.

PIP-61: Increase Quorum Threshold

We voted for this proposal as rising DAO activity have seen quorum reach over 1000% in recent proposals. Not much to add or discuss. As per our brief feedback below we agreed with the slight revision suggested.

PIP-62 - Velora Governance Task Force

We voted for this proposal as @SEEDGov brings highly relevant experience for such a role and has already demonstrated their contributions in revitalising the DAO under its guidance. Avantgarde provided significant feedback to this proposal that was met with a cooperative attitude and we’re happy to see stronger incentive alignment. While the 6-month review provides some nice manoeuvrability for the DAO, we have full faith in SEEDGov’s leadership and capacity to execute this mandate productively and successfully.
